Letter written to Mrs Susannah Phillips at Pelotas by Thomas Benbow Phillips at Rio Grande, dated 6 September1875

Thomas Benbow Phillips apologised for not writing sooner, but something always came to hinder him. However, Mr Moseley was going to Pelotas, and would deliver his letter. All was well at home except that little Brenhilda had been ill for the past few days with a fever. Tom had a birthday the previous week and he was sorry she had missed the occasion. He still worked at the Telegraph Office, Llewelyn and Arthur were still at the wollen factory and were on the whole good boys. Mr and Mrs Cloud and family were going to Rio de Janeiro on the “Cervantes” on 9 September, and he would be very sorry to loose them. Miss Margaret Davies was down in Rio Grande for about a month, but she only called at the house once. She had made new friends, and forgotten the old ones. Business was very bad. Thomas Benbow Phillips asked her to write and let him know when she would visit. Januaria and all at the house sent her their love. He had written the letter in large handwriting so that she could read it.

Letter addressed to Mrs Phillips, care of Illm & Son, Celestino S Juan, Pelotas
