Description

Photograph showing the staff of the Empire Theatre alongside a table of gifts. Is it a display of wedding presents from the staff to the manager or perhaps a farewell presentation? We may never know. But what is certain is that this Edwardian group was taken outside the Cardiff Empire in Queen Street some time after it had been reopened in 1900 following a disastrous fire three years earlier. A further reconstruction took place in 1915 and in 1933 it was converted into a cinema. The photograph was donated to Cardiff Central Library by Stewart Williams.
