Description

This banner was made for the National Savings campaign of World War II. In order to fund the war effort, the government used posters, banners and advertisements with the slogan 'Lend to Defend the Right to be Free'. These appealed to the public's patriotic instincts to buy savings bonds, savings stamps and savings certificates. By the end of 1945, sales of savings bonds had raised £1,754 million.
