Confidential memorandum sent to William Chambers from Colonel J. F. Love, 1 April 1845 [page 1 of 3]

Description

This memorandum was enclosed with a letter sent to William Chambers from Colonel J. Love, 1 April 1845. The memorandum refers to a threat by Shoni Sguborfawr on Chambers' life and a proposed attack at Cwm Mawr.

Description by Evan D. Jones:

'A farmer told a Kidwelly seedswoman at the house of John Jones, mason, Llanddarog, that John Skiborfawr had proved himself a good prophet and that his prophecy would soon be accomplished inasmuch as Shoni had said that Mr. Chambers would be a dead man. 'They are not suppose that Becca is dead - Oh, No far from that, she is as alive as ever, and you may depend she will make them know that, as preparation are being made amongst the colliers about Cwm Mawr and Mynydd Mawr'. They had great animosity against the family at Cwm Mawr. The daughter of John Jones said Becca went to Cwm Mawr to pull the house down but someone persuaded the others out of pity for the old gentleman, not to do it. The farmer replied 'Well you shall see how it will be done next time'.
