Letter from James V. Vincent and Rev. Hugh Price to Lord Newborough, regarding the riot at Penmaen-mawr, May 1846 [image 1 of 4]
Description
This letter was sent to Lord Newborough from James V. Vincent and the Rev. Hugh Price, the chairmen of the Caernarfonshire Quarter Sessions, in May 1846.
They write to inform Lord Newborough that they were forced to send to Chester for a detachment of troops because of the 'riotous proceedings' originating in Penmaen-mawr. While they were sitting in Petty Sessions, some 300 or 400 railway navigators [navvies] had attempted to rescue a prisoner who had been charged of assaulting an Irishman.
