Description
It is assumed that the gaol's long case clock was made locally in Ruthin, during the first half of the nineteenth century, by the Joyce family who were well known clockmakers in the town. The internal movement was made in Birmingham but it would have been assembled locally. The face was altered much later (perhaps in the late 1870s) with the maker's name being covered by the text 'H. M. Prison Ruthin'.
