Ebony and brass mortice gauge, owner's name Tucker, made in Sheffield, 19th century

Description

A mortice gauge that was used by a woodworker to mark the edges of a mortice. The wood between the marks would be chiselled out to provide a slot or mortice, into which a tenon fitted to make a sturdy joint.
