Description

A group of items relating to Corporal George Dudley, of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers, who was killed during the Allied retreat to Dunquerque in May 1940. Included is a page from his diary, dated May 28th 1940, the last he wrote before his death. In a remarkably courageous and poignant entry, addressed to his wife Ivy, he relates the hopeless situation in which he and his comrades find themselves: the relentless rain, the constant barrage of fire, and his resolve to fight to the last and die 'with a brave heart'.
