Description
This telescope, also known as a scissor scope, or rabbit-ear telescope, was developed during the First World War, and remained in use throughout the Second World War. Set on a tripod, it was used by the battery commander for range-finding prior to battle.
The battery commander was responsible for fire tactics, fire discipline and for directing and controlling the fire of his battery of four to six guns. Fire tactics meant deciding on battery positions and selecting targets, while fire discipline meant bringing the battery into action and delivering fire.
