Silver presentation jug awarded at shooting contest, Ruthin, 1862 [image 1 of 2]

Description

This silver jug was awarded to Private John Rowland, winner of the Denbighshire Rifle Volunteers shooting contest held at Ruthin in 1862. The jug was donated by the local landowner, Sir Watkin Williams Wynn.

The inscription on the jug reads as follows:
'Denbighshire Rifle Volunteers, Ruthin Contest, Aug 21st & 22nd 1862. First Regimental prize. This silver Cup with a prize of pounds. The Gift of Lieut. Col. Sir W. W. Wynn Bar M.P. Competed for by 8 Company's and won by Private John Rowland of No.1 Wrexham Company'.
