Description
This oil portrait of Sarah Lloyd, Plas Power, Wrexham, was painted by Thomas Frye (1710-62). The painting measures 129 x 105 cms. An oil portrait of her husband, Simon Lloyd, was painted by Frye in 1749. Frye was born near Dublin but moved to London c. 1729 where he established himself as an artist, engraver and miniaturist.
Plas Power came into the Fitzhugh family in 1816 through the marriage of the heiress of the Lloyds to Thomas Fitzhugh. Lieut-Colonel G.E. Fitzhugh (Commanding Officer of the 61st Medium Regiment between 1939 and 1943) subsequently inherited the portaits of Sarah and Simon Lloyd.
