Welsh Costume: Orphan Boy, 1830s

Description

Title: ‘The Orphan Boy of Pontneath Vaughan Engd by C Heath paintd by J Christall [sic] who lived there ?some years’
Description: Boy in jacket, waistcoat and trousers but no shoes with ‘Dutch’ shovel and basket of potatoes. The shovel has a curved handle but the blade is straight rather than at an angle to the handle.
Note: Joshua Cristall produced several works of Welsh landscapes.
