Uniforms of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, 19th century

Description

The black uniform belonged to the Royal Merioneth Milita, c. 1835-55. The full dress jacket is actually not black but a very dark 'Rifle green' colour. The jacket features an elaborate Russian braid on the sleeve.

The red uniform belonged to the Local Eifionydd Volunteers, c. 1803-8. The short-tailed coatee features gold buttons with the engraving 'L.E.V'. The scarlet wings have been trimmed with gold lace and decorated with a bugle horn - the symbol of the Light Infantry.
