Painting of the ship 'Sea Queen' which sailed from Aberaeron harbour

Description

The 'Sea Queen' was an iron ship of 873 tons, built in Glasgow in 1858. She had two decks and measured 180 feet by 30 feet by 21 feet.
This painting was inscribed 'Sea Queen of Aberaeron, David Thomas, Commander, entering Marseilles, April 19th, 1868'.
There is no evidence that a ship of this name was built at Aberaeron, and it could well be that the 'Sea Queen' was acquired by an Aberaeron man, and commanded by David Thomas.
