Souvenir jug, showing Pontypridd Bridges, 1800s

Description

Pontypridd Bridge was built by Willliam Edwards 1755. His first two attempts to build a bridge failed, as they were washed away by floods. The third attempt was successful: the completed bridge had two round holes in the upper stonework to lessen the impact of floodwaters. The bridge was very steep, and was very difficult for traffic to use. A new bridge was built alongside the old one in 1857.
