The logs are dragged up the slope.
Description
Extraction - Cutting the trees looks relatively straightforward but it is the extraction which is challenging. On the long, steep gradients, the team use a “Skyline” which runs a steel cable between equipment at the top of the incline to another at the bottom. Felled trees are attached to the line and drawn up to a point on a roadway, where they can be processed by the PONSEE and stacked ready for the trucks to take them away. In trickier locations a Timberjack winch is used at the top of the incline to draw the timber out. Many of you will have seen dramatic American TV programme, “Axe Men” , showing Skylines being used, but we are told that the teams in Talley are much more safety conscious!.
