Description

Western Mail photograph and report about a Street theatre event in Cardiff, as part of the National Abortion Campaign Day of Action 9 February 1982. Western Mail photograph and article. A petition was handed to the Welsh Office objecting to a proposal to alter the information which doctors were required to submit to authorise an abortion.
The women in the photo are (from left to right): Sue Hayes and Jayne Browning (doctors/ the medical profession); Kate Middleton (judge/ the law); Megan Davies (civil servant/ Department of Health and Social Security); Penni Bestic (bishop/ the church).
In an attempt to get copyright permission, the archive copy of the Western Mail 1982-02-10 was inspected at the British Library: however, the edition in the archive did not include the photograph and story seen in this newspaper clipping. Megan Davies contributed an oral history interview to the Safe & Legal archive.
