Description

Newspaper clipping from an unknown national newspaper, 29 October 1979, reported the launch of a campaign by the TUC against a Conservative Private Member’s Bill to amend the 1967 Abortion Act, with a ‘huge demonstration through central London’ and a rally in Trafalgar Square. Estimates of the turn-out ranged from 17,000 to 40,000 and the main slogan was: Keep it legal, keep it safe. The report noted that feminists from London Women’s Liberation Movement and Women’s Aid dashed to the front of the march, ahead of the TUC leadership.
