A large stained beechwood lovespoon, dating from the late nineteenth century [image 1 of 2]
Description
Such a lovespoon may have been made by a specialised wood carver, perhaps for an Eisteddfod competition. The highly intricate fretwork displays a wide variety of shapes, many purely decorative but some representing hearts, keyholes and 'soul' signs. The fretwork is enhanced with delicate chip carving.
