"Carmarthen, 23 September, 1843.
Sir,
As there is an apprehension of disturbance at or near Pontyberem tonight, and as Col. Love has in consequence ordered a Patrol of Cavalry to go from Llanelly to-night to that place, I will be obliged to you to arrange what Magistrate is to accompany the Troops. They ought to march at 10 and remain at or near Mr Newman's works till after 12, and then return to Llanelly. The Magistrate will find Inspector Tierney (at Mr Newman's), of the London Police with some of his men and, if possible, with a few Pensioners.
I am, Sir, Yours, very truly, Geo. Rice Trevor. Vice-Lt."
