Carreg Silfaen and the Common, Gwaun-cae-gurwen

From a postcard sent from Cwmgors to Northampton.Contributed by Tony Welford.

It is said that this is where pack horses carrying iron ore between Ystalyfera and the forge at Llandyfan rested.

one of the extracts from the GCG School Log Book reads;
July 6, 1888--- "Rev. Mr Selby Jones visited the school and informed the children that his present of sweets would be distributed on the first fine day".
July 11--- "Cleared up, so that the children were taken to Carregfilfaen [a bit of rock on the common] by the Rev.Mr Jones to receive the sweets as promised".
