'The Fall of the Rhydol' by the naive artist known as 'A Welsh Primitif'
Description
The landscape of the Rheidol valley and Pumlumon were favourite subjects for this artist. However, we know nothing about the artist known as 'A Welsh Primitif' and the drawings give us very few clues about the artist's life. Although apparently naive works of art, with awkward perspective (most of the drawings have multiple viewpoints, distortions and anomalies), they are also very dramatic. The artist achieved this effect through rich colouring and by bathing the central area of the painting in an almost theatrical spotlight of golden light. Carmarthenshire County Museum has 23 drawings by this artist and the National Library of Wales also has a collection. Watercolour drawing. Dimensions: 24cm x 32cm.
