Letter sent from Mary Jones, a native of Llanfihangel-y-Pennant, to her parents from Ballarat, Australia, 14 August 1859.

In this letter, Mary expresses the hope that her sister, Jennet, will come and join her in Australia. Although her mother is clearly unwilling to allow another of her daughers to emigrate, Mary argues that it is better for her mother to have children living in wealth and happiness 'than lingering at home in poverty'.
