The communion plate was presented for use in the College Chapel by John Scandrett Harford, DCL, FRS, of Blaise Castle, Bristol and Falcondale, Lampeter, Lord of the Manor of Lampeter. He was also the donor of the site of the College (Cae Castell, which he owned as Lord of the Manor), and was one of its first Sub-Visitors.
