John Davies (1891-1918) Pt. 90451, Machine Gun Corps, born 30/05/1894, the second son of Rees and Anne Davies, Rhydgoch,Maesllyn, Llandysul. Initially had a reprieve in order to help on the farm, but after a hearing 30/06/1816 he had to join up within 2months of that date. He enlisted in Brecon in the South Wales Borderers (29528) but transfered to the Machine Gun Corps (90451) early 1917. He participated in the battles of Vimy,Scarpe,Ypres, Polygon Wood,Brookseinde ,Poelcappele and Passchendale.He was reported missing in France, died 28/03/1918, aged23. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial,France and the War Memorial Bylchygroes. His widow Mary lived at llethr Mawr, Maesllyn. He was posthumously awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
