Sketch of Aberdare, by one of the Bacon Sisters, 19th century

Description

During the early 19th century, Aberdare changed dramatically from being a small village in a rural setting to become an over-populated and disease-ridden town, surrounded by the workings of the iron industry. This sketch of the 1830s captures something of the rural scene before this transformation had been completed.
