About

The PDSTdivegroup was formed in 2005, and have a successful relationship with the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust, one of Wales’ leading Heritage Organisations. The Divegroup is based at the Heritage Centre, Pembroke Dock and is the sole Diving Unit for the Sunderland T9044 wreck at Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, which is a protected site. Mooring, fishing and diving are prohibited within a 100 metre radius.

Currently crewed by fourteen experienced local divers, which includes BSAC, SAA and PADI instructors. The Divegroup provides many services to the Sunderland Trust and other organisations, these services include:

Safety boat duty for local ‘on the water’ events

Monitoring of the remains of T9044

     Underwater excavation

     Raising of artefacts

     Search and recovery

     Underwater photography and video

     Underwater survey and inspections

In addition, the PDSTdivegroup advises on post-recovery options and effectively integrates, performs and supports the requirements of archaeological and heritage underwater investigations. Assisting organisations such as the BBC, Channel Four, Wessex Archaeology, 360 and others.

We also maintain an active interest in the history of Pembroke Dock and Pembrokeshire as a whole. Working alongside the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust and also creating our own digital archive. (This is now being transferred to the peoplescollection.wales, we believe this will secure the archive for future generations to enjoy). No original artefacts or documents are actually stored by us, but we are happy to photograph/scan and catalogue items the general public may think are of interest.

The Team regularly gives talks to interested groups and are happy to participate in school visits.

Team members have worked and dived around the globe, acquiring an extensive range of skills, including:

     Maritime Archaeology

     Search and Rescue/Recovery

     Underwater Survey and Cartography

     SCUBA diving instructors

All our team members are qualified boat handlers and radio operators, first aid certified, oxygen administrators and trained in the use of underwater communications with full face diving equipment. In addition, each member is required to hold a Sea Survival Certification.

Contact with the PDSTdivegroup can be made through David Pring c/o the Pembroke Dock, Heritage Centre. In addition to this you can use the contact form available on our website.
