About

Pembroke and Monkton Local History Society was formed in October 2009 to raise public awareness of Pembroke’s great history. Recording memories is an important part of our work and, in 2014, we published a considerable work entitled ‘Through My Eyes: a Community History of Pembroke and Monkton' which consisted of a 3 hour DVD of 45 digital stories (which can be viewed here) with an accompanying book. Also uploaded here are a series of 6 filmed WW1 memories which formed part of a project 'Pembroke Commemorates the Centenary of the end of WW1 –in words, pictures, art and film'. These 2 projects received HLF funding. In addition to the work of promoting Pembroke’s history in an annual programme of talks, exhibitions and fundraising events, the Society's volunteers organise and run Pembroke Museum. The Society has also embarked on a book publishing programme, with 5 books of local interest published so far. Please visit our website to find out more.
