Kenneth Williams

This guest's family was the first on the street to get a television set; today he has seven televisions in his home. He remembers watching the Coronation and discusses how feelings towards the royal family have changed. He says television bears a lot of the responsibility for that and says that agreeing to take part in the television programme 'It's a Knockout' had harmed the image of the royal family. Discussing the broadcasting from Aberfan he questions the fairness of quizzing people who are in mourning. This guest was an avid Rugby fan in the 70s and he speaks of the atmosphere, the intelligent crowd, the antics of Phil Bennett and Gareth Edwards etc. He also discusses the effect of broadcasting rugby on society and says that winning has a great impact on motivating school, college and village teams. The Miners' Strike is discussed and the experience of an uncle of his who crossed the picket line. As he speaks on Devolution he remembers feeling sick the night the results were announced when he realised that the 'Yes' campaign would win.
