Ivor England
This former miner remembers going to work in the pit with the noise of the programme The Railway Children echoing in his ears - his first experience of television. He discusses the negative attitude of people on television, especially politicians. As he discusses Aberfan he says that eveyone wanted to be part of it - either by going there to help or by watching on television, but he states his opinion that television often uses people. He also discusses the Miners' Strike, a strike he took part in. He says that television did not sympathise with the point of view of the miners and that the attention given to the UDM had lessened the public support for the strike. Arthur Scargill, the picket lines, and the cultural tradition of the people of the valleys and their attempt to better their lives are discussed.
