Valmai Jones

The Coronation is one of the interviewee's earliest memories. She saw it at a neighbour's house and remembers the big walnut cabinet and her mother making sandwiches. The Aberfan disaster was a turning point for her, it made her realise that she belonged to Wales. She watched the Investiture at home in colour, and didn't agree with aspects of the ceremony but felt it was a good thing for Wales and that Prince Charles deserved a chance. After the launch of S4C the interviewee began watching Welsh television and feels that Eisteddfod coverage has been particularly important. She felt that the Miners' Strike was a foregone conclusion. She felt the miners' were portrayed unfairly and discusses the loss of culture.
