This is a reasonably accurate china model of Castle House, Aberystywth. It has a removable lid with 6 holes and might have been used as an incense burner. It has no maker's marks and probably dates to the 1820s. Several models identical to this (but without the colouring) are known.
Castle House was built on the sea front near Aberystwyth Castle in about 1795 to designs by John Nash for Sir Uvedale Price of Herefordshire. It formed part of Castle Hotel in 1865 which was purchased in 1872 to house the University. Castle House was demolished in 1897.
