This is a picture of me (Marisa - daughter of Cheryl and Patrick Stevens who still live in the village, opposite Gwastod in the Old Police Station) and my little cousin Lynwen. Calenig (New Years Day) without fail, children of the village would go around singing to whoever answered the door and your singing would be rewarded with coins. Depending on your age, if you were younger, your song would be Calenig, Calonig, plant bach ishe ceiniog.. As you grew older the song turned to Blwyddyn Newydd Dda I ti, Ac i bawb sy yn y Ty. Dyma fy nymuniad I, Blwyddyn Newydd Dda I chi. Hopefully it is still a tradition that has carried on through generations.. I loved it and have the fondest memories. Especially when visitors were in the village.. when completely confused and bemused upon opening the door and asking what we were doing, I convinced many over the years that we received notes .... many a £1 note went into my bag in the early 80's... Sori Mam
