Ketch 'Eliza Ann' of Cardigan discharging at Nant-y-Ferwig, 1910

Description

'Eliza Ann' was built in Cei Bach, Cardigan, in 1877. It was initially a sloop (a one-masted sailing boat with a mainsail and jib) weighing 34 tons, but in 1904 it was re-rigged as a ketch (a two-masted sailing boat with a mizzenmast stepped forward of the rudder and smaller than the foremast).

'Eliza Ann' was sunk by gunfire from a German submarine 40 miles southeast of the Lizard Lighthouse in Cornwall in August 1917.
