Pen wiper made from a wishbone, c.1900

Description

This pen wiper was made from a wishbone in Montgomery, c. 1900. The jingle on it reads: 'Once I was a merry thought growing on a hen / Now I am a little slave made to wipe a pen'. 'Merry thought' is an old English name for a wishbone.
