Letter from Corporal John Griffith Jones, from a camp near Vicksburg, to his parents in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, 1 March 1863 [page 1 of 2]

Description

John mentions the same battle as in his last letter. He says that it was a 'pretty sharp battle' and that they had six pieces of cannon. As well as taking almost forty prisoners, they also captured a cannon which weighed twelve pounds.

He writes that they are all being fed well and lists some of the food including soft bread, meat, tea, coffee, potatoes, fresh beef and plenty of porridge. He believes that he is fatter than he has ever been before.
