Scientific Name:Macrolepiota procera
Fungi facts:The Parasol is a large mushroom growing in troupes or as a solitary specimen in pastures. The large cap resembles a parasol – hence its common name. It also has a scaly top to the cap which is why in some parts of Europe it is known as “Snake’s hat”. It is much sought after because it is edible but can’t be eaten raw because it is slightly toxic.
