Split-Gill Fungus by Brenda Rees
Description
Scientific Name:Schizophyllum commune
Fungi facts:The ‘Split Gill’ fungus is so called because underneath the cap the radial gills are each split longitudinally. These splits fold over the fertile spore surface during dry weather and unfold when rehydrated by rain thus releasing the spores. The fungus is commonly found on wrapped silage bales and was rare in this country before the advent of bales instead of silage clamps.
Technique:A textile assemblage on a hand coloured background
