Scientific Name:Auricularia auricula-judae Fungi facts:This fungus grows on elder and the fruit body resembles an ear – hence its common name. The specific epiphet is derived from the belief that Judus Iscariot hanged himself from an elder tree; the common name “ Judas’s ear” eventually becoming “Jew’s ear” and now “Jelly ear”.
