Chicken of the Woods by Ellen James

Description

Scientific Name: Laetiporus sulphureus
Fungi facts: ‘Chicken-in-the-woods’ is a species of bracket fungus which grows on many of our over-mature deciduous trees. The large yellow brackets are produced in tiered layers on the trunk. It colonises the heart wood in the centre of the tree and discolours the wood yellow at first which then turns red and finally brown. The decayed wood has a characteristic cubical cracking appearance.
Technique: A textile assemblage hand and machine stitching
