Scientific Name:Marasmius oreades
Fungi facts:Fairy rings are a common feature of many fungal species. The rings are present in woodland but are more noticeable in grasslands. The fruit bodies are formed at the growing edge of the ring which in a lot of cases is a darker green than elsewhere. Fairy rings have over the centuries been linked with folklore especially in Western Europe. Although sometime seen as 'dangerous' places they have been linked with good fortune.
