Fly Agaric by Maureen Lewis

Description

Scientific Name:Amanita muscaria
Fungi facts:This is probably the most well known of all fungi and has been depicted in Children's books and Fairy Tales. The Fly Agaric contains hallucinogenic compounds and the red and white cap colour has been linked to the red and white attire of Father Xmas. His 'flying reindeer' in the sky is deemed as a consequence of consuming too many these mushrooms. The depiction of Father Xmas as a drug crazed junkie is rather unfair.
Technique:Appliqué with hand embroidery.
