Scientific Name:Boletus erythropus
Fungi facts:This species is a member of the ‘Bolete’ family all of which produce mushrooms with pores and tubes instead of gills on the under surface of the cap. The spores are released from these tubes. It has a red stem but a characteristic feature of this species is that the flesh turns blue very quickly when damaged. Although edible it can cause stomach upsets when eaten raw.
