Y Carchariad a'i ganlyniadau, front cover [image 1 of 105]

Description

A volume of manuscripts and newspaper cuttings concerning the imprisonment of Lewis Jones and Richard Jones Berwyn in 1882-83. During the years which led up to 1882 there was a marked deterioration in the relationship between the Welsh settlers and the Argentine authorities in the Camwy Valley. Tensions peaked at the end of 1882 when Lewis Jones accused Juan Finoquetto, the Settlement's newly appointed Governor, of sending inaccurate reports about the Welsh settlers to the Government in Buenos Aires. In protest, Lewis Jones refused to submit the statistics which he had collected, and he was imprisoned without trial the following day. Richard Jones Berwyn was also imprisoned for protesting against the authorities' treatment of Lewis Jones.
