Contemporary copy of Nelson's freedom certificate, on silk, printed by Charles Heath, 1802
Description
Nelson was granted the Freedom of the Borough of Monmouth in 1801.
He visited the town the following year as part of a tour of south Wales that was undertaken for three reasons: to visit the port at Milford, to report on the state of Navy timber in the Forest of Dean, and for pleasure.
