Description

On a rather drizzly September day back in 2018 (21/09/2018), I walked the coast path between Llangrannog and New Quay. Although damp, the day was fantastic for wildlife! There were bottlenose dolphins at Llangrannog, as well as by Birds Rock; seal pups in two of the inaccessible bays, and adult seals hauled out at various locations. However, the absolute highlight would have to have been the otter I spotted swimming near Birds rock! Initially I had been sat watching the dolphins foraging around 150m away, when movement closer to the cliffs caught my eye. I assumed I must have glimpsed a seal until, to my complete surprise, an otter popped up instead! Unbelievable! I was lucky enough to snap a quick picture of the individual, before it disappeared under the waves yet again.
