Penlan farm sits high up on the hillside at the head of Cwm Glesrych, facing roughly south-west to catch the sun. It is an old house, built mainly from white quartz stone blocks which glisten and shine in the sun. The land was sold to the forestry Commission after the Second World War to plant trees but a few acres were retained to prevent the house from being engulfed by the forest.
