In February 1984 while on patrol in Belfast, Private Philip Bunce of D Company, 1st Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Wales, was within five feet of a bomb exploded remotely by the IRA. Private Bunce suffered wounds to his arms and legs, and as can be seen from the damage sustained by the beret, to his head. Fortunately, he survived the blast.
