Eggs for Belgian Refugees PC

Description

This is a familiar photo of Laugharne Castle but the message reminds us of the part played by the community in welcoming Belgian refugees to Laugharne. In December 1914, two families, Demoulin and Vandervoort, arrived in Laugharne. Some stayed until the end of the war. (see photos on PCW) "Eadah" was Eadburgha Cowan, the teenage daughter of Dr Cowan of Malvern who spent long summer holidays staying at The Boat House. She later married and settled in Laugharne, where her decendants still live.
