Aunt Cath (1870-1952) Briton Ferry circa 1910

Description

This is (May Hewlett's) Aunt Cath. She was the eldest of the 11 James children and when their Mother Anne (Rhys) died aged 52 (in 1900) Cath took over the care of the children. They lived on the Neath Road in Briton Ferry where their Father Thomas worked as a Tin Plate Roller. 5 of the James children died young of tuberculosis. May's Mother, Beatrice, was the 9th James child and only 14 when her Mother (Anne) died. The remaining James children were very close.
